WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS, Ohio (WJW) – The FOX 8 I-Team has learned that Warrensville Heights Mayor Brad Sellers has been charged.

According to the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court docket, Sellers was charged Tuesday on charges of tampering with records and petty theft. The docket states that the offenses happened on July 3, 2018.

Sellers is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 18.

We reached out to Sellers to discuss the matter but have not yet heard back.

The case was handled by a special prosecutor from Summit County.

Cuyahoga County prosecutors did ask the Ohio Ethics Commission to review Sellers conduct.

The I-Team has previously reported Sellers had signed a document giving himself a property tax break in Warrensville. That tax break caught the eye of investigators.

Back in January 2022, we asked Sellers directly about giving himself a tax break and asking if that was a conflict of interest.

At that time, Sellers responded by saying, “no, that’s where you’re mistaken on this point. Let me tell you why. The document comes straight out of the law department. If they thought there was an issue, they would not have let me sign.”

Back in 2018, the I-Team also revealed Sellers had fallen behind on paying his taxes.

In January 2022, we revealed it had happened again.

Then, in July 2022, a spokesperson for Cuyahoga County told us Sellers had just paid a whopping tax bill clearing up his back taxes. The county said Sellers caught up by paying $16,000.
