NEW DELHI: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has fined Air India express Rs 10 lakh for not complying with some of its passenger-centric rules.
The regulator had conducted surveillance inspection of scheduled domestic airlines this June to check compliance of regulations for: “flying persons with disability and/or with reduced mobility”; ticket refunds and “facilities to be provided by airlines due to denied boarding, cancellation and delays of flights.”
“During surveillance inspection, it was observed that Air India Express was not complying with rules for (facilities to be provided to passengers by airlines due to denied boarding, cancellation of flights and delays in flights),” said a DGCA statement.A show cause notice was issued to the airline, seeking their response.
“The reply submitted by AI Express revealed that the airline had not complied with (those) provisions providing compensation to passengers affected due to cancellation of flights. Accordingly, DGCA has imposed a financial penalty of Rs10 lakh on AI Express for non- compliance of DGCA regulations,” the statement added.
The inspections were carried out as part of DGCA’s annual surveillance programme 2024. The same are conducted to “ensure compliance of passenger-centric (rules) at various major airports on a continuing basis.”
