They found an officer in his marked patrol vehicle who had been shot.

All three officers were taken to local hospitals. Police confirmed one officer was killed, and a second officer has life-threatening injuries,
The third officer is expected to be okay.
“Our department is hurting. We have officers who are injured who are in the hospital and we lost one of our own. We ask tonight and this morning for the thoughts and prayers of our city, for not only those who are recovering in the hospital but for our fallen, for their family, and for their loved ones, and for us as a department as well,” said Kristin Lowman, a spokesperson for Dallas PD.
Dallas police shooting suspect killed
Police said the suspect is dead.
After the officer-involved shooting there, the suspect led officers on a high-speed chase up Interstate 35. The chase reached high speeds and stretched all the way from Dallas to Lewisville. Surrounding agencies were called in to help, sources told FOX 4.
TxDOT cameras captured the chase as it moved along Loop 12, headed north alongside the west side of Dallas, eventually making its way onto I-35E. The chase ended in Lewisville, where the suspect was eventually killed.
“The preliminary investigation is showing that when that suspect exited the vehicle, he had a long gun. Dallas police officers then shot at the suspect, fired at the suspect and he died at that scene,” Lowman said.
The suspect’s name has not yet been released.
His motive is still unknown.
Northbound I-35E near Business 121 was closed until about 7 a.m. because of the police investigation.
