Palm Springs man sexually assaulted and drugged multiple people, police say – MASHAHER

A Palm Springs man accused of sexually assaulting and drugging multiple people, including a woman he met at a bar, was arrested recently and ordered held without bail.

Juan Segura, 27, of Palm Springs is charged with six felonies, including rape and sodomy, and faces additional formal allegations that some victims were intoxicated or unconscious. He has pleaded not guilty and is next set to appear in court Sept. 4.

A woman told police on Aug. 19 that she met a person she knew as “JC” at a Palm Springs bar and socialized with him and his friends at a local hotel. The woman said the situation escalated and she was sexually assaulted, then traveled elsewhere in the Inland Empire and reported the incident to authorities there.

Palm Springs police said they determined “JC” was Segura, whose full name is Juan Carlos Segura Jr., and arrested him in the 400 block of E. Arenas Road on Aug. 21.

Upon further investigation, detectives said they found evidence tying Segura to additional crimes, including a case in March when someone “believed they were drugged and raped by Segura” and another in August where a person “blacked out and awoke with injuries consistent with sexual assault,” according to a PSPD statement.

The criminal complaint alleges the use of “force, violence and fear of immediate and unlawful bodily injury” in at least two cases, one of which allegedly involved a minor, as well as two occurrences when an unlawful sexual act was performed on an unconscious person, authorities said. In two other counts, Segura was accused of using an anesthetic, intoxicating and/or controlled substance.

Police asked anyone with information on the cases or Segura to contact Detective Michael Delgado at 760-323-8145 or [email protected].
