An 11-year-old Wichita boy inside a home was shot early Saturday morning in a shooting where an occupied church was hit as well, Wichita police spokesperson Kristopher Gupilan said.
The injury to the boy is non-life-threatening, Gupilan said. EMS took the boy to the hospital. The boy’s condition was not available Saturday afternoon.
No one was reported in custody as of Saturday evening.
The shooting was reported at 12:33 a.m. Saturday in the 1400 block of North Lorraine, which is near 13th and Hillside.
Gupilan said multiple shots were fired and officers in the area heard them.
Four people were hit inside the church but were not injured, he said. The house the boy was inside was on the same block but not next door.
Police were still trying to determine if the shooter or shooters were in a vehicle, on foot or where exactly the shots were fired from.
Gupilan did not know why the church was occupied at that time. He would not say what church was shot.
There are two churches in that area — Saint Mark United Methodist Church and Holy Savior Catholic Church — but neither is in that block.
