(KRON) – Berkeley native Hersh Goldberg-Polin, one of the multiple people taken hostages by Hamas, was found dead in Gaza, his family announced in a statement Saturday night.
In a statement released by California Governor Gavin Newsom, he recalls traveling to Israel to meet with Goldberg-Polin’s parents last year after the abduction. Newsom says his family is grieving with the Goldberg-Polin family.

“Held captive under brutal conditions, Hersh’s story and the plight of other hostages was shared with the world through the brave and tireless advocacy of his family.” Newsom continues, “We keep in our prayers all the victims and loved ones impacted by this heartbreaking tragedy.”
Goldberg-Polin was one of the hostages abducted from the Tribe of Nova music festival near Gaza by the terrorist group Hamas.
