KTMB extends sympathies to 72-year-old former teacher harassed in women’s only coach – MASHAHER

PETALING JAYA: KTMB has expressed its sympathies to a 72-year-old former school teacher who was harassed on the KTM Commuter Ladies Coach.

“Referring to the post made by Sheahnee Iman Lee on Facebook on Monday (Sept 2) we would like to express our deepest sympathies to her mother who was travelling from Bukit Badak Station to Shah Alam Station,” said KTMB Strategic Communications Department in a statement on Monday (Sept 2).

It was reported that a former school teacher was allegedly harassed and insulted by a group of male youth in the women’s coach of a KTM Komuter train on Saturday (Aug 31).

Lee in her post explained that her mother encountered the group of young men occupying the women’s only coach after boarding the train to Klang.

She was then harassed and insulted by the group after she admonished them for taking up space in the women’s coach.

“KTMB customer service unit has already reached out to Sheahnee and explained that the ladies’ coach was introduced to provide a safe environment for women using KTM Komuter services and passengers are encouraged to use the intercom button or contact KTMB’s Auxilliary Police at 03-22631194 in case of any emergencies.

KTMB said it is showing continuous commitment to addressing this issue by deploying Auxiliary Police officers and staff on trains to conduct regular patrolling from time to time and advise the passengers on the usage of the women’s coaches.

“KTMB is involved in ongoing discussion with the Public Land Transport Agency to work on legislation and in addition through enforcement operations and awareness campaigns.

“Other than constant surveillance efforts by us, we would like to call on the public to assist us in reminding each other for the benefit of all passengers of the sensitivity and importance of the coaches,” it added.
