WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) – A man from Waterbury was arrested following a shooting near a nightclub and crash on I-84.
Waterbury police said the incident began around 1:10 a.m. when police responded to a report of shots fired near West Main Street and Park Place. Around the same time a gunshot wound victim was dropped off at a local emergency room. The victim, a 24-year-old man from Waterbury, is currently in critical but stable condition.
According to police, the shooting happened after a disturbance at the Stanley Billar Club. The suspect in that shooting, identified as 30-year-old Edwin Henriquez-Vasquez, was involved in a car crash on I-84 and was taken into custody by state police. Police found a ghost gun with a high capacity magazine while he was being taken into custody.
Henriquez-Vasquez has a previous conviction in Connecticut which means he cannot legally possess firearms.
He is being charged with reckless endangerment in the first degree, assault in the first degree, altering or removing identification marks off a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm, illegal sale or transfer of a pistol or revolver, illegal possession of a large capacity magazine, carrying a pistol or revolver without a permit, and criminal possession of a pistol or revolver.
He is currently being held on a $1.5 million bond.
