For the first time since the Nazis terrorized Europe, Germany’s hard-right party has won a state election.
No less than Arizona’s own state Sen. Wendy Rogers celebrated the extremists’ win on Sunday … with the anthem of Adolf Hitler.
We in Arizona are shocked … not at all.
“Deutschland, Deutschland über alles,” Rogers posted on social media, after the Alternative for Germany party racked up wins in two state elections over the weekend.
The words — Germany, Germany above all — were written as a call for unity in the 1800s and later adopted as part of the country’s national anthem. But they became the Nazis’ rallying cry, as they claimed their superiority, and were removed from the anthem after World War II.
Now here comes Rogers, celebrating the Nazi theme song.
Wendy Rogers is the Legislature’s biggest kook
Rogers is, hands down, the biggest kook ever elected to the Arizona Legislature.
She is a staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump and a proud member of the Oath Keepers, the far-right militia group that figured prominently in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the nation’s Capitol.
She’s built a national following as she rants about election conspiracies and George Soros and the cabal of Jews, journalists, political elites and other nefarious characters who plot to create a New World Order.
Rogers’ campaign smear is low: Even for her
Rogers has called Robert E. Lee a “great patriot” and openly longed for the days of Sen. Joe McCarthy, the 1950s era witch hunter who ruined thousands of lives with unproven accusations that they were communists.
Two years ago, she spoke to a group of white nationalists, heaping praise on their leader, Nick Fuentes — a Holocaust denier who has warned that America needs to protect its “white demographic core” and noted that people are comparing Russian President Vladimir Putin to Adolph Hitler, “as if that isn’t a good thing.”
She raises millions of dollars across the nation from the America First crowd, making her a virtual lock in every election.
Silence from Arizona Republicans is deafening
Still, one would think that she’d be shunned at the Legislature.
Instead, she’s the chairwoman of the Senate Elections Committee.
Don’t look for that to change.
“Deutschland, Deutschland über alles,” Rogers hails, as the far right scores a win for the first time since the Third Reich.
“Deutschland, Deutschland über alles,” Rogers cries.
And in Arizona’s Republican Party, the silence is deafening.
