Fatal 101 Freeway crash involving pedestrian snarls traffic through Woodland Hills – MASHAHER

A pedestrian was struck and killed on the 101 Freeway Tuesday morning, leaving traffic backed up for miles through the Woodland Hills area of Los Angeles.

The crash was reported shortly before 6 a.m. on the southbound side of the freeway near Winnetka Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A pedestrian was apparently trying to cross the freeway when they were struck by a vehicle. The unidentified pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim’s body landed on the opposite side of the freeway causing officials to close two lanes in both directions for the investigation.

Sky5 was overhead at 7:45 a.m. as Caltrans was setting up cones to keep motorists out of the closed lanes.

Ventura Boulevard between Tampa Avenue and Winnetka Avenue was also seeing heavy delays Tuesday morning due to motorists trying to avoid the backup on the freeway.

It was initially unclear how long the lanes would remain closed. “Yeah, it’s going to be a while longer,” KTLA’s Rich Prickett stated.

The CHP posted on X, formerly Twitter, that the freeway had reopened shortly before 10 a.m.
