Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport to shut down runway for maintenance – MASHAHER

KENNER, La. (WGNO) — Kenner residents near the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport may soon hear an increase in aircraft noise as construction begins on one of the two runways.

According to MSY officials, starting Wednesday, Sept. 4, the north-south runway is set to close for 10 days, allowing contractors to perform safety maintenance for the completion of the Taxiway Construction Project.

“All aircraft arriving and departing from MSY will use the east-west runway during this time,” said MSY officials.

MSY officials say the project will replace approximately 1,500 feet of concrete pavement on the southern portion of taxiway Sierra parallel to the north-south runway and allow aircraft to reach the runway end.

They add that the temporary closure and work will not impact any airline operations or flight schedules.

If the work is completed ahead of schedule, then aircraft arrival and departure on both runways will resume normal operations.
