NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio – A ‘peanut-shaped’ roundabout is coming to Lorain County.
According to the City of North Ridgeville, construction of the “much anticipated peanut-shaped roundabout project” will begin on Monday, Sept. 9.

The new roundabout will be located at the intersection of Stoney Ridge Road, Mills Road and Avalon Drive.

During the first 8 days of construction, portions of the intersection closed for construction will vary. CLICK HERE for more details. Then, starting on Tuesday, Sept. 17, a full closure of the intersection will take effect for 90 days, according to the city.

According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, roundabouts are safer than traffic signals and can move traffic more efficiently with fewer delays.
ODOT recognizes that roundabouts aren’t typically perceived as a popular solution among the public but said, “Much of that is due to a lack of education about their benefits and them being a relatively new traffic pattern for many areas of Ohio. Public reaction usually flips to positive within a year or two of them being installed and open to traffic.”
