England’s white-ball captain Jos Buttler was ruled out from the upcoming T20I series against Australia. He could also miss the five-match ODI series that followed right after the T20I series. Buttler took to his Instagram to share his frustration over the injury as he wrote, “Frustrating to have a setback with the injury but working hard to get it right.” The captain also seemed upset with the setback as he is eager to recover and make a comeback. This was yet another hiccup as he was recovering from a right calf injury. In his absence, Phil Salt was named as England’s captain for the T20I series.
Buttler sustained an injury in July while preparing for The Hundred and was ruled out of the tournament. He was aiming to make a comeback in the quarter-final of Lancashire against Sussex in the Vitality Blast. The match was scheduled to take place on September 11 and Buttler could miss that now. With his injury getting aggravated, Buttler might miss the entire summer without taking the field. His last appearance for England was in the semi-final loss against India on June 27 in T20 World Cup 2024.
Buttler’s Insta story
It is worth noting that this is Buttler’s third calf injury in last four years. He would turn 34 this Sunday and with captaincy and longevity of his career on line, he might want to give up his captaincy duties to preserve his body. It is also learnt that Harry Brook might be given charge of the ODI cricket captaincy for Australia series if Buttler doesn’t recover in time.
