Woman orders crab soup at Myrtle Beach seafood restaurant. Gets more than crab, suit says – MASHAHER

A Myrtle Beach seafood restaurant has been named in a lawsuit after a woman alleges she choked on metal bobby pins found in her she crab soup.

The suit names Hook & Barrel and Heidi’s Corner Restaurant Group, which owns Hook & Barrel.

“We deny the allegations of the complaint,” owner Heidi Vukov said by email. “Hook and Barrel is and has always been committed to the safety of our guests and staff.”

Vukov said because of pending litigation, that the company is unable to offer further comment.

Tiffany and Kevin Buddington claim they were eating at Hook & Barrel, 8014 N. Kings Higway, on Sept. 21, 2023, when Tiffany felt a “sharp, painful sensation” in her throat while eating a bowl of she crab soup. Tiffany began to choke and Kevin administered the Heimlich maneuver on his wife, causing her to spit out a metal bobby pin, the suit said.

A second, identical bobby pin was later discovered and surgically removed from Tiffany’s stomach, the suit said.

The suit, filed Aug. 29, 2024, is claiming negligence against the restaurant and the restaurant group for serving the soup with a foreign object in it and failing to notice the object before serving it to customers.

The suit is asking for a jury trial.
