A man posing as a police officer was arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow after allegedly using a fake uniform and identification to watch movies for free and dine at roadside eateries without paying for the food. Romil Singh, a resident of Bahraich, was taken into custody after UP police discovered his ruse.
Romil Singh had long been fascinated with joining the police force but failed to do so. Undeterred, he purchased a police uniform and badges from Charbagh, Lucknow, and had an ID card printed to complete his disguise. Using this false identity, he frequently visited multiplexes to watch movies and ate at local eateries without paying the bills.
His actions eventually aroused suspicion, leading to a call to the police. During questioning, Romil Singh claimed to be from Bahraich and posted in Barabanki, even presenting a fake ID card to support his story. However, when officers checked his credentials against the police database, they found the ID card to be fraudulent. Further verification by the station where he claimed to be posted confirmed that his story was false.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) East, Shashank Singh, the man used a disguise to deceive people, but his scheme has now been exposed. The police arrested Romil Singh and sent him to jail. Items recovered from his possession include the fake police ID card and other materials used in his impersonation.
The police are probing to determine if Romil Singh has committed any other offences while posing as a police officer.
