Forbes released its top 500 colleges list. See where UConn is and which CT schools made it – MASHAHER


Forbes just released their annual list of America’s top colleges, and a handful of Connecticut schools made the list.

Forbes’ list highlights the 500 American colleges that offer the best outcomes in education, finances and careers for all students according to their calculations. Schools are ranked using 14 different metrics, including retention rate, graduation rate, alumni success, alumni salary and debt.

While some things on the list are the same as last year, such as Princeton University ranking No. 1, there was some movement. Double the amount of historically Black colleges and universities made the top 500, accord to Forbes, and schools with higher admission rates climbed up the rankings.

Out of the 500 schools ranked, eight are in Connecticut, with four making it to the top 100. See exactly where these eight Connecticut schools placed below.

Which of Forbes’ top 500 colleges are in CT?

Here are the eight Connecticut colleges that made it on the Forbes 2024-2025 top colleges list, in order of lowest to highest ranking.

Fairfield University

Located just an hour outside of New York City in Fairfield, this private school branded as “the modern Jesuit Catholic university” ranked 405th.

Central Connecticut State University (CCSU)

Central Connecticut State University

Central Connecticut State in New Britain came in 374th place. Just 15 minutes from Hartford, the school is the state’s oldest publicly funded university.

Charter Oak State College

Also based in New Britain is Charter Oak State, a public online school which sits at the 338th spot.

Connecticut College

This small liberal arts institution ranked 161st. Located right on the bank of the Thames River in New London, Connecticut College is known for its interdisciplinary learning and rich history of campus traditions.

Breaking into the top 100 at No. 85 is Connecticut’s biggest state school. The University of Connecticut, known as a “public Ivy,” is home to one of the best college basketball programs in the country.

Trinity College

Trinity College in Hartford came in 71st place. This selective liberal arts school is Connecticut’s second-oldest institution of higher education.

Wesleyan University

Middletown’s Wesleyan University placed 54th. Wesleyan is a small liberal arts institution that focuses on innovative curriculum and original research.

An Ivy League institution in New Haven, Yale University ranked fourth, making it the highest-ranked Connecticut school on Forbes’ list. Yale is highly regarded for its rigorous academics and prestigious drama program.
