A pickup truck alarmed witnesses as it was spotted driving the wrong way, then making a U-turn on a highway in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Sunday, September 8.
Local resident Robert VanSuilichem captured the incident from his home overlooking US-131.
“I was getting ready to watch the Detroit Lions beat the Rams and saw a driver going up an off-ramp from 131 north to I-196 east. He was on 131 northbound going south toward the Pearl Street on-ramp, where he attempted to get off and then slow-turned on 131 northbound. No accident occurred,” he told Storyful.
VanSuilichem told local media he sees “at least a fender-bender” from his window every day.
WZZM reported new wrong-way detection systems had been installed on sections of 131 due to a “34 percent increase in fatal wrong-way driving accidents from 2015 to 2018.”
