Yes Studios is partnering up with Paramount’s Ananey Studios on “The Lost City: 101 Days in Captivity,” a new three-part documentary series revolving around the true story of four young Israelis who were kidnapped while on a trip to South America in 2003.
The series, which will premiere on Yes Docu on Sept. 19, was created by the award-winning documentarian Ofir Trainin (“Wandering Eyes,” “Family in Trans”) and Omri Kronland, Ananey Studios’ documentary and non-scripted content editor-manager. Kronland is also the author of the novel “The Place Where the Sun Begins.”
Helmed by Trainin, “The Lost City: 101 Days in Captivity” tells the story of four young Israelis who decided to go on the ultimate trek to “The Lost City” in Colombia, along with four foreign travelers they met along the way. Within 48 hours, they were kidnapped by the ELN, a notorious guerrilla organization that held them for 101 days in the heart of the Colombian jungle. Twenty years later, their trauma was revived when news broke of the dozens of Israelis who were kidnapped by Hamas on Oct. 7 and taken to Gaza. For the first time, those who were abducted in South America were able to meet the leader of the ELN, the organization that kidnapped them, to try and get answers to the questions that haunted them all these years.
“The Lost City: 101 Days in Captivity” was produced using material filmed in real-time, personal diaries written in captivity and conversations with the protagonists in English, Spanish, German and Hebrew.
“This compelling and chilling documentary series provides a fascinating insight into what it is like to be kidnapped, along with the long-term physical and psychological impacts of the former hostages’ survival journey,” said Sharon Levi, Yes Studios’ managing director. The company will handle international sales on the documentary series.
“At a time when the plight of hostages, from how their kidnappers treat them to the long-lasting effects of such a violent disruption to their lives, remains a very topical subject, not just in Israel, but also in other areas of the world where there is conflict, we believe this new documentary will resonate with many international buyers,” Levi continued.
The premium docuseries is executive produced by Keren Gleicher, Guy Lavie and Uzi Karin for Yes, and Orly Atlas-Katz and Osnat Saraga as executive producers for Paramount’s Ananey Studios. Yes Studios previously teamed with Ananey Studios, an award-winning Tel Aviv-based studio, on new scripted series “Wonder” earlier this year.
