Israel intelligence unit chief quits over failure to prevent Hamas’ October 7 attack, seeks ‘forgiveness’ – MASHAHER

Israel’s intelligence unit chief is set to resign in the near future over failure to prevent Hamas’ October 7 attack that killed over 1200 people, including civilians. According to reports, Yossi Sariel sought “forgiveness” for the failure of the mission in his resignation letter.
“The commander of the 8200 unit, (Brigadier General) Yossi Sariel, has informed his commanders and subordinates of his intention to end his position,” the Israeli army said in a statement on Thursday.
“The officer will conclude his role in the near future,” it added.
The media aired a copy of Sariel’s resignation letter, in which he expressed his “forgiveness” for “failing to fulfill the mission we were entrusted with” on October 7.
This comes after Israel’s military intelligence directorate Major General Aharon Haliva announced his resignation in April 2024.
Since October 7 attack, Israel’s military offensive against Hamas has resulted in at least 41,118 deaths in Gaza, as reported by the territory’s health ministry. The UN rights office has indicated that the majority of those killed in Gaza are women and children.
