A crash between a truck and a light rail vehicle in the CBD has brought services between Convention and Central to a halt on a morning of commuter chaos in Sydney.
Dozens of passengers were evacuated from the tram after the collision at Pitt and Hay streets at about 6.50am on Friday, derailing the tram.
“Passengers are advised to allow extra travel time, catch a local route 501 bus or walk instead,” a Transport Management Centre statement said.
No injuries were recorded and services are still running between Dulwich Hill and Convention.
Meanwhile, traffic on the busy M4 motorway is at a standstill in both directions as a police operation throws the Friday commute into chaos.
The motorway is closed from Burnett Street and the Cumberland Highway in both directions while the police operation unfolds at the Coleman Street overpass.
Westbound traffic is particularly heavy from Auburn to Wentworthville.
Motorists should use the Great Western Highway instead. Local buses are also delayed as a result.
