MAPLEWOOD, Mo. – If you’re craving some fine-cut meats, a St. Louis-area butcher shop was recently praised among the best in the United States, according to a national poll.
The butcher shop was one of several nominated for national spotlight through the USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. A panel recently nominated butcher shops of many sizes and specialties, and butchers with quality locally-sourced selections fared well.
According to the USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, Bolyard’s Meat & Provisions in Maplewood was named the nation’s third-best butcher shop.

The Choice Awards touted Bolyard’s for its variety of fresh fine cuts, including bone stocks, pates, smoked meats, chorizo and charcuterie boards. Unlike many local competitors, Bolyard’s is also a whole animal butcher, meaning they source and utilize entire animals.
Bolyard’s owner, Chris Bolyard, is a Culinary Institute of America graduate. The business’s website says it has a strong passion for working with local farmers and humanely producing meats. Bolyard’s also prides itself on offering hot meals, catering and classes on how to handle fine cuts.
To earn its place among the Choice Awards, anyone could cast votes to recognize Bolyard’s as the best US butcher shops for several weeks through early-September. Bolyard’s only trailed John Mull’s Meats of Las Vegas and The Organic Butcher of McLean in Virginia in the poll results.
Bolyard’s is located at 2733 Sutton Boulevard in Maplewood, Missouri. For more information on the butcher shop, click here.
