FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A 17-year-old teen is wanted after Fresno County law enforcement says he escaped while in the custody of the county’s probation department on Thursday.
According to the Fresno County Probation Department, 17-year-old Isaac Cardenas escaped custody at noon on Thursday. Earlier, the teenager was in the process of being booked into the Juvenile Justice Campus on a violation, but he did not medically clear the booking process.
Officials say further evaluation was needed, so he was transported to the Community Regional Medical Center in Downtown Fresno. However, once at the hospital, Cardenas was able to flee from the vehicle and avoided being captured by officers.
The Fresno County Probation Department immediately notified local law enforcement of the escape. Now, they say they had begun search operation efforts to capture Cardenas.
“We are taking this matter very seriously and are working diligently with our law enforcement partners to apprehend the individual. We are also conducting a thorough review of the circumstances surrounding the escape to prevent future occurrences,” said Chief Probation Officer Kirk Haynes.
Law enforcement described Cardenas as 5-feet-9-inches, 140 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black short-sleeved shirt, beige sweatpants and black Jordan shoes.
Officials warn the community that the suspect has a history of committing violent crimes.
“The public should consider him dangerous and not approach him,” officials said.
Anyone with information regarding Cardenas’ whereabouts is asked to call 911.
