For Siddhant Chaturvedi, Yudhra marks a major career milestone as it features him as the solo lead for the first time. Directed by Ravi Udyawar, who is renowned for directing Sridevi’s Mom, the action thriller has generated significant excitement. However, Chaturvedi acknowledges that this opportunity also brings a certain level of pressure and apprehension associated with leading a film.
Siddhant Chaturvedi opens up on the pressure of playing a solo lead in Yudhra; says, “Some things are not in your control”
In an interview with PTI, Siddhant said, “I’ve always wanted to come into cinema because everybody has some kind of aspiration, and this is that kind of film. I want people to shower love, be excited and be on the edge of their seats.”
He added, “Some things are not in your control and hopefully, things will turn out well. But there’s a bit of pressure and fear, which is part of the job. I’m sure this film will surprise people.”
Siddhant, who made a notable debut in 2019 as the experienced rapper MC Sher in Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy, mentioned that Yudhra was set to be his next major action film as a solo hero following his debut. However, the pandemic caused delays in the project. Produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment, the film was officially announced in 2021.
Although Yudhra took three years to complete, the actor’s trust in the script and the backing of the producers kept him motivated to continue his training and preparation for the role. He felt assured that “nothing could go wrong” with the support of the creators behind Don.
He said, “At that time, action had not peaked, so we were ahead of the curve. My conviction was so strong with the script as was Farhan and Ritesh sir’s. Any other producer would’ve backed out thinking, ‘It’s a newcomer, new boy, big scale film, not feasible,’ but we all had a conviction in the script.”
Siddhant described Yudhra as a distinctive action film that incorporates elements of romance and drama. In the movie, he portrays a character on a mission who struggles with anger issues.
He said, “There was a roundtable with Ayushmann (Khurrana), and Ranveer (Singh) they were like, ‘We don’t make slick action films.’ This was right after I had signed it (Yudhra).”
“Then War, Pathaan and all of these films came, but I still feel this film is different from that. It is a different attempt (at action films), it is not just based on violence or for effect, it has a great story, it has twists and turns, and it is a roller coaster ride along with romance, action, and everything,” he further added.
Yudhra also stars Malavika Mohanan, Raj Arjun, Ram Kapoor, and Gajraj Rao in key roles. The film is scheduled to hit theatres on September 20.
