Featuring an ensemble cast, the Netflix series IC814: The Kandahar Hijack seems to have resonated with the audience for its gripping and power packed story that is inspired by true events. Among the ensemble star cast of Vijay Varma, Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Arvind Swamy, Dia Mirza, and others, is also Anupam Tripathi, who made his Indian web-series debut with this Anubhav Sinha show.

For the unversed Anupam Tripathi is known for his role in the global phenomenon Squid Game. And now that he made his debut in Indian web-series, he decided to shed light on his journey of landing the role in IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack. “My audition happened on March 31, 2023. I got a call from Mukesh Chhabra’s office asking if I could audition for a role. I spent the entire night preparing, and around 3 or 4 am, I sent in the audition recording. The next day, I got a call from Mukesh Chhabra saying, ‘We are locking you in’,” he said.
Reflecting on his character Ram Chandra Yadav, Anupam shared, “I was eager to portray someone with a dual personality – where what you see is not what it really is, a character full of layers and complexities. The script was so meticulously researched that I didn’t need to seek out additional references; it effortlessly transported me back to the events of the 1999 hijacking, which I vividly remember from my school days in sixth or seventh grade.” He added, “Our director, Anubhav Sinha, guided us through every step. He’s a fun and heartwarming person to work with.”
Anupam shared his gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside legendary actors Naseeruddin Shah and Pankaj Kapur. “I had the chance to meet the true gurus of Indian cinema who have inspired and motivated countless actors like me… Standing before them was an indescribable experience.”
Speaking about the web-series, IC814: The Kandahar Hijack is a gripping thriller based on the events that transpired during 1999 when a flight from Kathmandu to New Delhi was hijacked by a group of militants, leaving the fate of 190 flight inmates in jeopardy. Since its launch on August 29, the show has been a part of the Global Top 10 (Non-English TV) List and trending at #4 in 26 countries.
