NOVATO, Calif. (KRON) — Nicholas Tannler, a 34-year-old Inverness resident, was arrested on Tuesday for burglarizing several items, including campus keys, from Novato High School. The Novato Police Department said Tannler is currently facing commercial burglary charges and narcotic offenses.
Novato police received reports of a “classroom burglary” at NHS at about 2 a.m. on August 20. During the burglary, the School Resource Officer (SRO) told police that campus keys and “personal items” were stolen.
The SRO developed leads, spoke with witnesses, and told police they believed Tannler was a possible suspect in the school burglary.
Late Tuesday night, nightshift officers noticed a “suspicious car” on Redwood Blvd. Police identified Tannler in the car and initially detained him for “other unrelated crimes.” Officers then investigated Tannler’s connection to the NHS incident and said their evidence confirmed Tannler was involved in the August burglary.
NPD said the stolen campus keys were recovered and returned to the school. Police did not give an update on the “personal items” stolen.
