46-year-old Lafayette woman receives 16-year sentence for fatal hit-and-run accident – MASHAHER

LAFAYETTE, Ind. ― Kylee Neal was sentenced Monday to 16 years in prison for hitting and killing 61-year-old Kathy Hicks and leaving the scene of the accident in front of Franciscan Health Hospital on Creasy Lane.

Neal pleaded guilty in late July to leaving the scene of a fatal accident and being a habitual offender. She was sentenced in Tippecanoe Superior 2.

Neal’s plea specifies that she serves no fewer than 16 years of her sentence in prison, according to her plea agreement. Any time above 16 years ― up to 20 years ― will be served at either a prison, community corrections or on probation.

Based on her sentence on Monday, Neal, 46, will spend 16 years in prison, followed by two years under the supervision of community correction, which is followed by two years of probation.

She will have to serve 75% of her 16-year prison sentence, which is 12 years. Neal has been jailed since July 23 when she pleaded guilty.

Ten months ago, Neal was driving northbound on Creasy Lane in the wee hours of Nov. 26.

Hicks had left the hospital just before 3 a.m. on the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend after receiving care. She walked toward Creasy Lane, when she was struck and killed by Neal, who did not stop after the accident, according to the Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office and Lafayette police.

A patrol officer who minutes earlier had seen Hicks walking in front of the hospital found her lying dead in the northbound lanes of Creasy Lane about 3:03 a.m.
