The hilarious trailer of Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video was unveiled on September 12 and has received an encouraging response. Interestingly, the promotional material of the film mentions that ‘it is a 97% parivarik film’. Bollywood Hungama recently spoke with its writer-director Raaj Shaandilyaa on this aspect. We asked him why the film was not 96% or 98% parivarik and how he arrived at the figure of 97%.

Raaj Shaandilyaa smiled after listening to the question. He then told us, “Firstly, the film is set in 97 (the year 1997)! Secondly, around 2.5-3% of the film has a song between the hero and heroine when they get married. That’s what is ‘mahaparivarik’ about the film. It’s a bed scene but it’s also a good scene!”
For a moment, the writer heard ‘bed’ as ‘bad’, making him wonder how can a scene be good and bad at the same time. It’s only after a second that the writer realized that it’s just one of the gems of Raaj Shaandilyaa!
Besides Rajkummar Rao and Tripti Dimrii, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video also stars Vijay Raaz, Mallika Sherawat, Archana Puran Singh, Mukesh Tiwari, Rakesh Bedi, Tiku Talsania and Ashwini Kalsekar. Daler Mehndi features in the song which is a version of his hit track, ‘Na Na Na Na Re’.
Was it easy to convince the legendary singer? Raaj Shaandilyaa replied, “Incidentally, ‘Na Na Na Na Re’ was launched in 1997; the film is also set in the same year. It also suited the climax perfectly. I asked him for permission and he immediately agreed to give me the rights and to also act in the film.”
Raaj further said, “We were shooting in biting cold on the banks of the river Ganga for three nights. He was ill and yet, he didn’t mind and gave his best shot.”
What’s also striking is that Daler Mehndi looks the same as he did in 1997. Raaj Shaandilyaa agreed, “Yes. I used to joke with him, ‘Paaji kya khaate hai aisa aap’ (laughs)!”
The other surprise is Shehnaaz Gill for the dance song. Her fans can’t keep calm after her glimpses were shown in the trailer.
Raaj Shaandilyaa explained, “We wanted an actress who looks sweet as well as hot. I approached Shehnaaz. She was interested but was also nervous as it was a grand song. However, I wanted her as it’ll be a fresh choice for a special dance number. Warna main gaano mein same, same face dekh ke thak gaya hoon.”
Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video releases in cinemas on October 11.
