German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has expressed his concern regarding the current floods in several European countries.
“The floods we are witnessing are distressing,” Scholz said during a visit to Kazakhstan. He added that he has already promised support to the citizens in the affected neighbouring countries. “We will help as much as we can.”
The flooding situation is critical in several countries, and the death toll is rising: At least 12 people have lost their lives in the devastating rainfall in Romania, Poland, the Czech Republic and Austria.
In large parts of the extensive disaster zone, land remains submerged for kilometres. Roads and fields are flooded, basements and houses have filled with water, and dams and dykes have been partially destroyed.
