Indian student reclaims Guinness record with world’s smallest vacuum cleaner – MASHAHER

Tapala Nadamuni, a 23-year-old student from NIT Patna, has achieved a remarkable feat – reclaiming his Guinness World Records title for creating the world’s smallest vacuum cleaner.

Measuring only 0.65 cm (0.25 in) across its shortest axis, it’s smaller than a pinkie fingernail and a full 0.2 cm smaller than the previous record, which was set in 2022.

Tapala had originally held the title in 2020 with a vacuum measuring 1.76 cm, and after two rejected attempts, he’s back on top.

THE JOURNEY TO A TINY VACUUM

After spending the past two years trying to regain his title, Tapala came up with an entirely new design.

He crafted over 50 detailed schematic diagrams to ensure that his miniature vacuum would meet the stringent standards required for the world record.

In his own words, “All the students in our college were amazed at this tiny vacuum cleaner, and my faculty told me that it’s the most beautiful creation they’ve ever seen.”

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The vacuum is made mostly from parts of a refillable ballpoint pen, along with small bits of plastic and metal. Inside, a tiny rotating fan powered by a four-volt vibration motor creates enough suction to pick up dust particles.

Despite its small size, the vacuum makes a satisfying whirring sound when connected to a power source, and debris collected inside can be easily emptied out.

The vacuum’s size is measured without the handle and power cord, focusing on its main body.

A PASSION FOR INVENTION

Tapala’s passion for inventing gadgets goes back to his childhood, and this project is a reflection of his dedication to his craft.

In total, he spent around 20,000 rupees (£181; $238) on the design and development of this miniature vacuum.

Despite the challenges he faced, including having to make last-minute alterations to achieve adequate suction, Tapala’s persistence paid off, allowing him to claim his record once again.
