With NTR Jr’s Devara: Part 1 only days away from crashing onto the shores of theatres, the buzz surrounding this grand cinematic voyage is reaching tidal heights. At a recent panel discussion moderated by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, audiences were given a glimpse into the creation of this epic saga. Set in a mythical coastal world, the film is about a fearless warrior, Devara (NTR Jr), who braves the treacherous seas to protect his people. But lurking beneath the waves is a deadly conspiracy — one that comes from within, as Devara’s brother, Bhaira (Saif Ali Khan), plots from the depths of the shadows.
Saif Ali Khan recalls how Devera director Koratala Siva convinced him to join NTR Jr starrer: “He gave me the most passionate narration”
As the conversation unfolded, the tale of how Saif landed his first role in Telugu cinema came spilling out. Once the discussion deepened, NTR Jr. and Koratala Siva revealed what made Saif the perfect choice for Bhaira. Both were awestruck by Saif’s gripping performance and raw intensity in Omkara, which left a lasting impression on them.
Recalling how he was approached for the role, Saif said, “Firstly, when I was approached for the film, it was a great honor. I love Hyderabad cinema and I think it is the future for a lot of Bombay actors, who will be lucky and excited to be in big Hyderabad movies. I was very lucky to get this offer.” His initial worries about stepping into such a role and overcoming the language barrier were soon eased by director Koratala Siva. “He (Koratala Siva) said just turn up, and it’s going to be an easy experience. Don’t worry about it,” Saif recollected, smiling.
“He gave me the most passionate narration,” Saif shared, his eyes lighting up as he recounted his first conversation with the director. “Normally, my attention can wander if it’s not a great narration or I feel sleepy also,” Saif joked. But in this case, he was hooked. He added, “It was a spellbinding narration, very emotional.”
Devara: Part 1 is set for release on September 27, 2024. The film is directed by Koratala Siva and produced by Yuvasudha Arts and NTR Arts, with presentation by Nandamuri Kalyan Ram. Alongside NTR Jr. and Janhvi Kapoor, the film features Saif Ali Khan in a key role.
