Binghamton HS delayed school out of ‘abundance of caution’ following social media threat – MASHAHER

Binghamton City School District delayed classes at the high school Monday morning due to a possible threat.

Binghamton High School students started their school day at 11:58 a.m. after the district said they were made aware of two social media posts “alleging a threat of violence at Binghamton High School.”

“Out of an abundance of caution,” the district said, “the start of the school day was delayed.”

City of Binghamton Police investigated the claims and determined there was no credible threat Monday.

According to the district, the first post brought to their attention was a “non-specific threat” that had been “circulating throughout the region and parts of the State for more than a week.”

The second post was made by a Binghamton High School student claiming to have knowledge of the event. The district said the student did not in fact have knowledge of the event and had made the post “as an attempt to ‘warn’ people” in response to the first post.

Anyone with information to aid in the investigation is asked to contact Binghamton Police Department at 607-723-5321.

This report will be updated as more information becomes available.
