Guneet Monga DEFENDS Karan Johar amid nepotism trolling; calls criticism “Very unfair”
Monga’s Stand on Nepotism Allegations
Addressing the accusations of nepotism, Monga said, “For them to be blamed for only working with a certain kind of people is very, very unfair.” She explained that Dharma Productions has supported various genres and introduced numerous first-time directors, writers, and actors. According to Monga, Johar’s production house has been instrumental in promoting diverse stories, far beyond the stereotype of just rom-coms and love songs. She said, “They work with so many first-time directors and empower them… it’s a massive organisation making cinema and OTT projects and mentoring a lot of people.”
Dharma’s Role in Releasing The Lunchbox
Reflecting on her past collaboration with Karan Johar, Monga credited him for the successful release of The Lunchbox in India. She remarked, “They marketed it so well. They came, championed it, made it their own, and took it far and wide.” Monga explained that without Dharma Productions, the film might not have found an audience in India, despite its critical acclaim.
Monga also discussed their latest project, Gyaarah Gyaarah, which she described as a thrilling mix of police procedural and sci-fi elements. The show, starring Raghav Juyal, Kritika Kamra, and Dhairya Karwa, has surpassed 50 crore views and emerged as the most Googled show on Zee5 this year. Monga expressed her excitement about the positive reception and credited the entire team for its success.
