Summer will not loosen its grip early on the Kansas City area as temperatures will be significantly above the seasonal average, according to the National Weather Service.
“With high temperatures forecast to be in the upper 80s to lower 90s, we’ll be 10-15 degrees above normal through the end of the week,” the weather service said in its forecast discussion.
Temperatures will be around 87 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday. The hottest days will be Thursday and Friday when temperatures will be around 92 degrees.
“The normal high for the KC area through the end of the week is 79 and trending to 78 by Thursday and Friday,” the weather service said.
The weather generally looks dry for the next few days; however, the weather service said there are slim chances for rain in the western and northwestern portions of the Kansas City forecast area at various times.
Hail, strong winds in KC forecast
Strong thunderstorms could develop Thursday afternoon across northeastern Kansas and northern Missouri. Parts of Kansas City’s Northland are included in the area at a marginal risk of severe weather, according to the weather service’s Storm Prediction Center.
The main threat will be hail the size of quarters and wind gusts up to 60 mph.
The front responsible for the storms may stall across the area Friday into Saturday, bringing the metro’s best chance of rain. The weather service said the threat of severe weather over the weekend appears low.
Cooler weather is expected this weekend, with the temperature reaching around 82 degrees on Saturday, 75 degrees on Sunday, which is the first day of fall, and 77 degrees on Monday.
