PETALING JAYA: The Johor state government is focusing on economic growth in the special economic zone and enhancing infrastructure in Kluang, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The MCA president, who was with Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival with more than 1,000 Chinese residents at the Che Luan Khor Moral Uplifting Society in Kluang.
Dr Wee noted that Onn Hafiz highlighted the unity among Johor’s diverse racial communities.
“Therefore, the Iskandar region is not only focusing on economic growth but also improving infrastructure across various areas, including Kluang,” he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Sept 17).
The Mentri Besar expressed the need for a dynamic and understanding state assemblyman to strengthen his team and called on all Mahkota voters to support Barisan Nasional candidate Syed Hussien.
Syed Hussien, who is also Kluang Umno Youth chief aims to retain the seat for Barisan, while Perikatan is fielding 61-year-old Mohamad Haizan, a former footballer.
The seat fell vacant following the death of Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, on Aug 2.
According to the Election Commission (EC), the electoral roll for the by-election includes 66,318 voters, consisting of 61,397 ordinary voters, 401 police personnel, 4,510 military personnel and their spouses and 10 absentee voters abroad.
Of the total figure, Chinese voters comprise about 35%.
Early voting is scheduled for Sept 24, involving three centres with 11 stations. Polling day is on Sept 28.
