Ranveer Brar, who transitioned from chef to actor, has been making waves with his performance in The Buckingham Murders. Starring alongside Bollywood icon Kareena Kapoor Khan, Brar recently revealed how the excitement of working with her left him feeling nervous and even caused him to develop a fever. In an interview with India Today Digital, Brar shared that the hype around Kareena initially intimidated him. “While working with Pratik Gandhi in Modern Love Mumbai was breezy, I was slightly intimidated by Kareena,” he admitted.
“Kareena Kapoor’s reluctance led to 15 takes for iconic slap scene in The Buckingham Murders”, reveals Ranveer Brar
The iconic slap scene took 15 takes
One of the film’s key moments—a slap scene between Brar’s character Daljeet Kohli and Kareena’s—turned out to be a challenging sequence. Brar revealed that Kareena was initially hesitant to slap him, and it took 15 takes to get the scene right. “Kareena kept saying, ‘Nahin maarungi’ (I will not hit you),” Brar recalled. Her hand came close to his face several times but never made contact. Brar, who found it difficult to react without being hit, said the repeated takes were necessary for the perfect shot.
Kareena’s warmth and support on set
Despite his nerves, Brar was deeply moved by Kareena’s professionalism and warmth on set. He noted that she took extra care to make him feel comfortable, especially on his first day of shooting. Kareena, who could have easily delegated her time to others during Brar’s close-up scenes, chose to stay and support him. “She made me feel so comfortable, and all the anxiety I had vanished in that moment,” Brar said. This gesture, he noted, was a testament to her humility and respect for her co-stars.
Commitment to the story, not just her role
Brar went on to highlight Kareena’s dedication not only to her own role but to the entire film. As a producer on The Buckingham Murders, she was deeply involved in ensuring that the story came together cohesively. Brar observed that she prioritized the film’s narrative over her personal performance, demonstrating her commitment to the craft of filmmaking. “It’s not just about her character; she focuses on the entire story,” Brar shared, adding that he gained immense respect for her through this experience.
A learning experience for Ranveer Brar
Reflecting on his time working on The Buckingham Murders, Brar described it as an invaluable learning experience. Working under director Hansal Mehta, whom he regards highly, Brar felt like he was attending “filmmaking school.” The experience helped him grow as an actor and understand the nuances of film production. Expressing gratitude, he concluded, “Thanks to Hansal sir, I learned so much. It was an amazing experience, and I feel fortunate to have worked alongside someone like Kareena.”
