MAINSTAY HAWK APPROACHED BY RIVALS

Key Hawthorn defensive figure Sam Frost has reportedly been approached by Sydney, as the club looks to sharpen its defensive stocks heading into 2025.

AFL Media’s Josh Gabelich reported that the 31-year-old has been approached by the club, with interest also from St Kilda – who are looking to replace the hole that will be left by Josh Battle.

Frost enjoyed one of his better seasons at the top level this year, but with the aforementioned Battle and West Coast’s Tom Barrass also likely to land in brown and gold this off-season, his opportunities may not be as well guaranteed as they have been this year.

Throw in a fully-fit James Blanck, and Frost may well be on the outer – with other potential suitors now circling.

The three-club player could join rare air if he was to relocate again in 2025, having spread out his 13-year career across the Hawks, Demons and firstly GWS – an inaugural player at the latter club.

Gabelich also reported that Frost had earlier this year triggered a one-year extension at Waverley Park, which would give him security for at least another 12 months under coach Sam Mitchell.

Frost unfortunately missed Hawthorn’s semi-final against Port Adelaide, after his season came to an abrupt end with a scan revealing bone stress in his foot after his side’s elimination final win over the Western Bulldogs.

There is no indication yet Frost will move away from the Hawks.

OUT-OF-FAVOUR SUN EXPRESSES INTEREST IN MOVE

Gold Coast ball magnet Rory Atkins is reportedly keen on the possibility of playing at a third AFL club, reports AFL Media’s Callum Twomey.

The 30-year-old has been stuck in the VFL for the vast majority of the 2024 season, having played just three games; not sighted at the top level since his 20 disposals in Round 8 against Brisbane.

His desire to play elsewhere comes despite having a year to run on his current contract – currently four years into his five-year deal at the Suns after moving from Adelaide as a free agent.

With 138 games and a decade of AFL football under his belt, Atkins would certainly bring a desirable level of experience to any club who wished to take him under their wing.

Atkins’ numbers in the VFL were regularly eye-catching, having averaged over 33 disposals and 10 marks a game – including four games where he registered over 40 touches.

But unfortunately for the former Crow, Hardwick has had no interest in playing him at the top level while he accumulates a hefty stat line in the reserves.

And while questions over the defensive side of his game have been raised, there may be a suitor for Atkins that could use a ball winner in the back half.

The former Crow played 101 games at Adelaide, before flying north for 37 more at the Suns across four years.
