Sydney veteran Dane Rampe faces a nervous wait should the Swans seal a grand final berth, with the defender set to come under Match Review scrutiny for a hit on Zak Butters.
Rampe left his feet and made contact to Butters’ jaw with his elbow while trying to close down a handpass late in the opening term of Friday night’s preliminary final against Port Adelaide.
Butters was cleared to continue, but the action will undoubtedly be assessed ahead of a ruling on Saturday afternoon.
“Does the point of his elbow catch him on the chin?” Seven analyst and Rampe’s former teammate Jude Bolton asked on the broadcast.
The Swans opened up a 32-point lead in the shadows of half-time as they look to return to a grand final and avenge their loss in the 2022 decider.
Rampe is Sydney’s second-most experienced player, celebrating his 250th game in the prelim.
Rampe has featured in 22 finals matches – the equal-second most finals by a player without winning a premiership.
Only Nick Dal Santo (24) has featured more times in the post-season without snaring the ultimate success.
