Collingwood livewire Bobby Hill has won the 2024 Mark of the Year Award for his exceptional hanger against North Melbourne in Round 14.

Hill’s award at the Brownlow Medal saw him just pip teammate Jamie Elliott for the award, after the Magpies veteran soared just as high against Essendon on Anzac Day.

North Melbourne’s Zane Duursma was also in the running for the award, after his high fly against Richmond in Round 21.

Hill was fittingly handed the award by Pies teammate Jeremy Howe, who is arguably the league’s best high-flying mark of the modern era when it comes to theatrics.

“I remember when he took one against the Sydney Swans when I was a younger bloke. I used to jump on my couch and pretend I was Jeremy Howe,” Hill told everyone when accepting his medal.

Asked by Channel 7’s Hamish McLachlan if the hanger was his favourite mark, the 24-year-old had a cheeky response lined up.

“I’ve got a few, say Grand Final day? One maybe at the Giants playing against Adelaide, or maybe under 16s,” Hill said.

Hill pocketed a very nice $50,000, as well as a whopping two million Velocity points from AFL airline sponsor Virgin.

Questioned as to whether or not he had any trips lined up to use the points with, Hill took an unexpected decoy that sent laughs around the room.

“Might try take Jamie to Vegas tomorrow morning, who knows?” Hill joked.

“(My partner’s) probably not (happy), she’s looking at me now – I might get in trouble. Might take Tommy Mitchell… to babysit the little one.”

“I thought I had it (the award) sown up until he took that – I was actually on the couch watching… and then I realised what the award was, Elliott joked with Channel 7’s Rebecca Maddern after Hill’s award.
