Broome’s own Auskick coordinator Adam Goedecke won WA Football Commission’s Volunteer of the Year award at a ceremony at the 2024 WAFL grand final after being selected from more than 2500 nominees at the weekend.
Mr Goedecke was then selected from 17 finalists on September 22 for his tireless efforts coordinating junior football and giving kids their first taste of footy in one of the biggest and most remote regions in the country.
WAFC Club Development and Volunteer Specialist Jenne Russell congratulated the finalists who have made invaluable contributions to football.
“Well done to the finalists,” she said.
“The WA Football Volunteer of the Year Award is an exceptional opportunity to honour and celebrate the invaluable contributions of our volunteers.
“It’s great to see our community taking the time to recognise our volunteers.”
There are more than 45,000 football volunteers around the state who sacrifice their time to allow local football to thrive and make sure football can be played in every corner of the state, including in the most remote regions like the Kimberley.
The WA Football Volunteer of the Year is one of the most highly valued awards in the football industry, an initiative adopted nationally.
The program recognises the dedication and tireless efforts of football volunteers from team managers to trainers, coaches to canteen workers.
