Nick Daicos favourite to take home Brownlow; red carpet preparations kick up a gear – MASHAHER

The Brownlow is the biggest red carpet of the year, both in terms of national attention and how much it generates for the fashion industry, so expectations are high.

It’s come a long way since the crazy (but kind of great) days of Rebecca Judd’s navel-baring red dress in 2004 and Tanya Buckley’s “g-string gown” in 2001.

One stylist who has seen it all in 14 years of Brownlow ceremonies is Lana Wilkinson, who is styling six women tonight, including Arlette Amor, the partner of one of the hot favourites, Nick Daicos.

Wilkinson, who I caught up with for a sit-down chat ahead of this year’s red carpet, says the event has evolved, mainly for the better, since she started. “The critiquing isn’t as bad as it was,” she says. Though, thanks to social media, “everybody’s a fashion expert now.”

So, what can we expect tonight, trend-wise? I am hearing there will be lots of white – the Brownlow is sometimes referred to, pejoratively, as a wedding dress convention – and the sheer look, a trend from overseas, is also likely to feature.

Given that the Emmys were only a week ago, we will unlikely see any gowns emulating best-dressed actors Ayo Edebiri’s Bottega Veneta dress, or Kristen Wiig in Oscar de la Renta. But one can hope.
