Jr NTR, in a recent promotional conversation for his upcoming project, including Devara: Part 1, sat down in conversation with Alia Bhatt and Karan Johar, who are promoting Jigra. Jr NTR revealed that his working style starkly contrasts with that of many directors, including Mukerji, who advocates for extensive preparation.  While Mukerji’s meticulous planning is a hallmark of his creative process, Jr NTR embraces a more organic form of artistry, relying on spontaneity and instinct.

The actor’s viewpoint stems from the distinct filmmaking culture in South Indian cinema, which often thrives on adaptability and last-minute alterations. He explained, “Too much of prep doesn’t give you the chance to explore yourself. Like, if the prints have to go tomorrow, the team will still ask for one extra hour because they want to make some changes in the edit.”

For Jr NTR, this instinctive style is not merely a preference; it’s integral to his identity as a performer. He noted that the South Indian filmmaking ethos encourages a level of improvisation that can lead to unexpected and exciting outcomes. “You are shooting for a crazy sequence tomorrow, but everybody is so chill; we are not prepping at all. We know what needs to be done,” he remarked.

In discussing his work on War 2, where he stars alongside Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR shared how this instinct-driven approach played out in practice. The experience of working with Mukerji brought forth a unique dynamic as the director sought to elicit performances that might deviate from the script. “When I was shooting for War 2, Ayan did not know what’s going to come,” he said.

Mukerji found himself navigating uncharted waters as he encouraged Jr NTR to tap into his intuitive acting style. The actor further explained that the willingness of directors to embrace the unexpected can significantly impact the creative process. “It depends on directors if they are willing to accept when their actors deliver something beyond what was written,” he stated.

Jr NTR humorously recalled, “Ayan did not know what’s going to come. Because he was trying to bring it out from me.” His instinctual method often left the director anxious, leading to a moment where producer Aditya Chopra had to step in. “Adi sir was there in between, who said, ‘It’s ok, it’s ok, I get it,’” Jr NTR recounted.

War 2 also stars Hrithik Roshan and Kiara Advani. Meanwhile, Devara: Part 1 releases on September 27 and features Janhvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan.
