Knoxville and Knox County road closures as Hurricane Helene brings in dangerous floods and wind – MASHAHER


The outer bands of Hurricane Helene are colliding with regular late-summer rainstorms to create a soggy mess in East Tennessee. Conditions are expected to be dangerous.

As the rain continues to fall on already-soggy ground, flooding and fallen trees are forcing road closures.

Knox County road closures

Sevier County road closures

Sevier County, home to many of Tennessee’s most popular tourist destinations, is flooding.

  • Legacy vista Drive/Peach Orchard Lane is closed for repair after a collapse

  • North Clear Fork Road at Klaver Road is closed

  • Burden Hill Road near Eastgate Road is closed due to flooding

  • New Era Road in the area of Dave and Busters is being closed due to flooding

  • Sheconage Trail at Pittman Center is impassable due to a telephone pole across the road

  • 179 Whites School Road is flooded

  • 805 Hardin Lane is impassable due to trees across both lanes

  • Flatwood at Pecan Lane is flooded

  • River Divide Road at Sharp Hollow Road-Henderson Roade Bridge over to Battle Hill is closed in both directions

Great Smoky Mountains road closures from Hurricane Helene

  • Rich Mountain Road and Balsam Mountain Road (Heintooga/Round Bottom/Straight Fork Road) from the Heintooga Picnic Area to the park boundary

  • Heintooga Ridge Road

  • Balsam Mountain Campground

  • Parson Branch Road

Event cancelations

The Blount Partnership has canceled the Townsend Fall Heritage and Bluegrass Festival scheduled for September 27-28 at the Townsend Events Center, according to a Blount Partnership news release.

The Knox County Parents as Teachers’ 7th annual Roll and Read event will be closed due to inclement weather, according to a health department news release. The event is rescheduled from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 4 at Safety City, 165 S. Concord St.
