Dog Food Is Being Recalled Nationwide—Here’s What You Need to Know – MASHAHER

Pet parents, beware. There’s another recall that you need to keep on your radar—and of course, it’s for your little (or big) pup. According to a notice posted by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), a popular pet food brand is being recalled due to possible foodborne illnesses being present.

Announced on September 22 as a voluntary recall from Lystn, LLC and published to the FDA’s website on September 23, ANSWERS Pet Food of Fleetwood, Pennsylvania has recalled certain lots of their Detailed Beef Formula for Dogs, Straight Beef Formula for Dogs and Straight Chicken Formula for Dogs. The reason? Samples collected by the FDA were reported to have tested positive for the presence of both Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.

As the notice reveals, each of the affected products were sold in the 4-pound, half gallon carton. The Detailed Beef Formula has an expiration date of May 6, 2026 and a lot code of BUBD May 06, 2026. The Straight Beef Formula’s expiration date is set for January 31, 2026 with a lot code of BUBD Jan 31, 2026, while the Straight Chicken Formula’s expiration dates are January 2, 2026 and March 11, 2026. Lot codes for the latter item are listed as BUBD January 2, 2026 and March 11, 2026.

For those unaware, coming into contact with either Salmonella or Listeria can result in mild symptoms, including fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. In more serious cases, symptoms such as headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions can develop as well. If not treated correctly, more severe and long lasting issues may arise, such as brain and nerve damage.

While no illnesses have been reported so far, out of extreme caution, the FDA is urging customers who may have the product in their possession to throw out any remaining food or destroy it in a way that children, pets or wildlife will not be able to access it. Additionally, any areas that have come in contact with the product in question should be sanitized.

This isn’t the first recall of dog food that has put pet parents on edge this year. Back in July, dogs, cats and hedgehog owners were put on alert due to a food recall as a result of a potential listeria contamination. February and May both saw recalls for similar issues as well.

For consumers who wish to receive a refund for the product, receipts can be submitted with photos to [email protected] along with the retailer’s information. For any questions or concerns regarding the recall, you can email ANSWERS’ Pet Food at [email protected].
