Rajeev Verma is fondly remembered for his role as Salman Khan’s father in Maine Pyaar Kiya, a character that left a lasting impression on audiences. The actor shares a special bond with Khan, having also starred alongside him in the emotional film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and the intense drama Nishchaiy. Reflecting on their relationship, Verma noted, “I worked with Salman in many films after that. Zikr nahin karte lekin wo bachcha abhi bhi waise hi hai.” (It is not like we talk about our past work when we meet, but Salman is still the same kid.)
Respecting traditions
During the conversation with Vistaar News, Verma praised Salman’s good qualities, highlighting the importance of respect in their shared culture. He remarked, “Ye cheez usme hai aur khas taur se humare Madhya Pradesh ke logon me hai. Wo apne buzurgo aur seniors ka abhi bhi us tarah se izzat karte hain.” (This quality is in him, especially among people from Madhya Pradesh. They still respect their elders and seniors in the same way. I still get to meet Salman occasionally.) For context, while Salman Khan was born in Indore, Rajeev hails from Narmadapuram, MP.
A humble beginning
Reflecting on his journey, Rajeev Verma was asked if he anticipated the lasting impact of Maine Pyaar Kiya during his debut. He replied, “I didn’t think about it that way. I just wanted to work. They had seen Chunauti and called me for the film. They felt I was a different kind of a father and then they tested me for Maine Pyaar Kiya.” Verma humorously added, “Half of my hair was white then, but they said this can’t be it, we want only some portions white! That’s how I bagged the film.”
A versatile career
In addition to Maine Pyaar Kiya, Rajeev Verma has appeared in numerous successful films, including Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Deedar, Yeh Raste Hain Pyar Ke, Kacche Dhaage, Biwi No. 1, Himmatwala, and Andaaz, among others.
