KOTA KINABALU: Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan must ensure the formula that brought a thumping win in the Mahkota by-election be continued in the Sabah state elections, says Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin (pic).

Buoyed by Barisan’s Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah’s 20,648-vote majority win on Saturday (Sept 28), the Sabah Barisan chief said the victory not only showed the people’s confidence towards Barisan but was a benchmark for the cooperation with Pakatan.

“It shows that the formula and model of cooperation between Barisan and Pakatan is being more accepted by the people,” he said, in a statement late Saturday.

“The success of this formula must not stop here.

“Sabah Barisan and Sabah Pakatan must ensure this formula is continued in Sabah, particularly with the state election to be held soon,” Bung Moktar added.

The former Sabah deputy chief minister said much remains to be done in the state, especially in terms of development and efforts to attract more foreign investors.

He said, however, this could only be done with political stability.

“The win in Mahkota is clear proof that the people are more understanding of the need for political stability for the sake of the country’s prosperity.

“With this win, Barisan and Pakatan will remain committed to building a better future for all Malaysians,” Bung Moktar said, adding the Barisan-Pakatan cooperation must be extended to Sabah to bring about positive changes in the state.

Syed Hussien, 40, won the Mahkota state seat after garnering 27,995 votes while Perikatan Nasional’s candidate Mohamad Haizan Jaafar received 7,347 votes.
