Recovery efforts were ongoing in western parts of North Carolina on Monday, September 30, after remnants of Hurricane Helene triggered widespread flooding and caused severe damage across the region.
Footage captured by Ezra Penland shows deep floodwaters gushing through the town of Marshall and damaged buildings on Saturday.
“All this stuff is completely broken and flooded through,” Penland says in the video. “All the way past these buildings … past that, there’s even more buildings that are just completely gone,” he adds.
On Sunday, the state’s National Guard said it deployed more than 500 members to assist with rescue and recovery operations. Credit: Ezra Penland via Storyful
