Bollywood Hungama was the first one to report that 2024’s most successful producer, Dinesh Vijan, will be felicitated at the Big Cine Expo. The seventh edition of the expo began today, September 30, in Mumbai and the producer of Stree 2, the biggest Bollywood grosser of all time, was the chief guest. He graced the inaugural ceremony along with Raghavendra T, Director, Big Cine Expo and editor-publisher, TheatreWorld, Yusuf Galabhiwala, Partner, GTC Industries and Alok Tandon, Strategic Advisor to MD and ED, PVR Inox.
Dinesh Vijan makes his FIRST appearance after Stree 2’s blockbuster success at Big Cine Expo; reveals that releasing Zara Hatke Zara Bachke in cinemas CHANGED his destiny
Alok Tandon said, “It’s an honour to have Dinesh Vijan with us today, who’s turning his stories and scripts into box office gold today. He’s a person who weaves tales that literally captivate us, enthrall us, entertain us and also, at times, spook us!”
While felicitating Dinesh Vijan, the speaker not just congratulated him for Stree 2 but also his other successes of the year like Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya and Munjya.
Dinesh Vijan began by saying that he is amazed at the scale of Big Cine Expo, “Its so nice to see that so many lives are touched and that’s it’s a much larger industry than through our films. It’s a much larger industry than we ever thought.”
He also surprised the audience as he gave more credit to his 2023 sleeper hit Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, starring Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan, than Stree 2, which rewrote box office records.
Dinesh Vijan explained, “Maddock is built by directors and writers. They are our backbone. We won’t be here without them and their wonderful stories. As they say that there’s this one event and one decision you take that can change your destiny. I’d love to say that it was Stree 2 but it wasn’t. It was actually Zara Hatke Zara Bachke. We wouldn’t be here if we had not released that film in theatres.”
He continued, “At that point of time, there was a different climate, and everybody was thinking that these kind of films don’t work in theatres. Clearly, all of us, sitting here in Mumbai, don’t completely understand India!”
Dinesh Vijan added, “Against all the advice given to us, we decided to bring the film in theatres. And the rest, I saw, is history.”
Dinesh also implied that the positive response that he got from his family also made him realize that Zara Hatke Zara Bachke has potential. “I remember I showed the film to my mother and my wife. I have also lived in a joint family,” he said.
He ended his speech by saying, “I am the first-generation producer. Making films didn’t seem the wisest move. But cinema dares you to dream and if you have the conviction, you’ll get there.”
Incidentally, this was the first public appearance by Dinesh Vijan after Stree 2’s blockbuster success.
