Verizon customers who saw their service interrupted early on Monday should start seeing it restored, the company announced Monday evening.
“Verizon engineers are making progress on our network issue and service has started to be restored,” the company said in a statement on their X account. “We know how much people rely on Verizon and apologize for any inconvenience some of our customers experienced today.”
However, no specific timetable for restoration or what caused the outage were provided.
At least 1,500 people reported having no service in Columbus since 7 a.m., according to the real-time outage monitoring site Downdetector, The Dispatch previously reported. That number peaked at over 2,300 reports just before 11:20 a.m. At around 5:30 p.m. on Monday, the number of reported outages dropped to 104, though many more may have been without service because they heard about the outage and didn’t make a report.
The outage affected Verizon customers across the country. Customers reported that their phones were stuck in SOS mode, and they were unable to make calls or send text messages.
