A24 has released the trailer for its new erotic thriller “Babygirl,” which debuted in competition at the 81st Venice Film Festival on Aug. 30 and will open in theaters nationwide on Christmas Day from A24. Nicole Kidman won the best actress prize at Venice for her performance in the film.
According to the official logline, the film follows Kidman as a top-level business executive who “puts her career and family on the line when she begins a torrid affair with her much younger intern (Harris Dickinson).” Supporting cast members include Antonio Banderas, Sophie Wilde, Esther McGregor, Victor Slezak, Vaughan Reilly and Leslie Silva.
“All of us carry a little black box filled with taboo fantasies that we might never share with anyone. I am fascinated by the duality of human nature, and this film is an attempt to shine a light, without judgment, on the opposing forces that make up our personalities,” writer-director Halina Reijn said at Venice. “To me, feminism is the freedom to study a woman’s vulnerability, love, shame, rage, and inner beast.”
The film marks the third collaboration between Reijn and A24, which distributed her directorial debut “Instinct” in 2019 and her follow-up “Bodies Bodies Bodies” in 2022. Rejin serves as screenwriter and producer as well as director. Executive producers include Christine D’Souza Gelb, Erika Hampson and Zach Nutman. David Hinojosa and Julia Oh produce.
