Iran launched nearly 200 missiles towards Israel yesterday, with civilians told to hide in bomb shelters.
Warning sirens sounded across Jerusalem shortly after 5.30pm UK time as explosions were heard.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei gave the order to launch missiles at Israel, a senior Iranian official said.
The official added that Tehran “is fully ready for any retaliation”.
The IDF said it “identified and intercepted launches” and the “attack was serious and will have consequences”.
Sir Keir Starmer criticised Iran’s attack after speaking to Israel’s Prime Minister to discuss the escalating situation across the Middle East.
In a statement, a Downing Street spokesperson said the Prime Minister condemns Iran’s attack on Israel “in the strongest terms”.
Starmer spoke to Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday afternoon and “expressed the UK’s steadfast commitment to Israeli security and the protection of civilians”.
The Labour leader also underlined the “importance of a ceasefire in Lebanon”.
A Downing Street spokesperson said Starmer relayed the information to King Abdullah of Jordan about the “urgent need for a ceasefire in both Lebanon and Gaza”.
